Subject Leads

Our subject groups meet at least once a term. The meetings are chaired by a subject specialist and all members contribute to the agenda.

Meetings will cover all things curriculum, assessment and enrichment, they are an excellent opportunity to network, share best practice, conduct cross moderation and arrange peer to peer visits.

Art & Design

Elizabeth Gater
Pinner High School

I am Elizabeth Gater an Art teacher at Pinner High School and have worked in this department since September 2020. Alongside being a teacher of Art, I am also the Key Stage 3 Lead for PSHE, working and supporting colleagues across the school to deliver this curriculum.

I completed my undergraduate degree at Central Saint Martins, achieving a BA (Hons) in Textiles Design and have a specialism in Print.

After graduating I worked with a number of high street fashion brands and interior companies creating print collections before training as a teacher.

Olivia Weetch
Nower Hill High School

After completing a Fine art  BA at Central Saint Martins, I qualified as an Art teacher. My specialisms revolve around Photography, Graphic Design and exploring ways to embed digital technology and digital art making in my teaching practice. I have taught at Nower Hill High School since 2016 and have been Leader of Graphic Communications for 5 years.

My biggest accomplishment at Nower Hill is organising the annual Creative industries Fair where I secure  successful professionals in the industry from architecture, animation, music producing and tattoo artistry to educate young people about the dynamic and the amazing career opportunities there are in the Creative Industries.

I am also passionate about creating a diverse curriculum and I am part of the LGBTQ+ working group where as a result have run CPD to teachers.

Anisah Hussain

Bentley Wood High School

Salve! I am Ms Anisah Hussain, Head of Classics at Bentley Wood High School for Girls. I became a teacher with the intention of  enabling girls to grow into empowered women through education and my personal philosophy lies in the power of knowledge and the need to build resilience and a love of learning in my students.

I am a passionate Classicist with a belief that Classics lies at the heart of providing students with a truly holistic education.

I have been teaching Classics for a decade now, working in established and growing departments in both the private and public sector.

I am currently working to increase numbers at Latin GCSE and A level Classical Civilisation at Bentley Wood.

 

Computer Science

Ben Ford
Nower Hill High School

Head of Year 11 and Head of Vocational Computing at Nower Hill High School. Previously Head of the Computer Studies Faculty. Ben is also an SLE and Lead Practitioner of Computer Science & IT. Ben studied Information Systems at Brunel University, West London.

“Teaching Computer Science and Vocational IT is a fantastic opportunity to equip young people with the skills of tomorrow. Nearly every job involves the use of computers in some way, shape, or form. With a global shortage of IT skills, it has never been more important for us to ensure that our students are leaving school with the necessary skills to use computers to support their future lives and careers.”

 

Drama

Stuart Lodge
Harrow High School

Since training at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Stuart has led Drama Departments in a diverse range of schools, including some of the Capital’s most challenging; in addition to more selective and higher achieving centres. Currently building the Performing Arts provision at Harrow High School, he is also an experienced Lead Practitioner/coach in addition to being a lead moderator for Edexcel GCSE Drama.

Stuart combines his teaching with personal study for a Masters in Senior Leadership which is focused on inclusive practice.

 

English

Patricia Gordon
Nower Hill High School

Head of English at Nower Hill High School. Trish studied a joint degree in English and Greek & Roman Civilisation at UCD (University College Dublin).

‘Developing my skill and expertise in English teaching is at the forefront of my career, as well as developing those around me, including students and colleagues. I have an ambitious drive to improve my knowledge of English and seek to improve the knowledge of those around me too.’

 

Geography

Andrew Ferris
Bentley Wood High School

Hi, I’m Andrew, the Co-Deputy Head of Geography at Bentley Wood High School. I am also the Deputy Head of Sixth Form and lead on the Extended Project Qualification.

I started teaching following a BA in Geography & International Development and an MSc in Urbanisation & Development. As a Geography teacher, my aim is to foster a fascination with the world among my students and a desire to find out more about the world around them. With a background in university recruitment, I am also keen to promote Geography in higher education and as a career.

Fun fact about me – I can name the capital city of every country in the world!

 

History

Sam Webster 

Nower Hill High School

A History KS3 Lead at Nower Hill High School; Sam studied History at Sheffield Hallam University and achieved his history PGCE qualification at the University College London Institute of Education.

‘I love history. I am always looking for ways to develop my subject knowledge, my teaching and how I can learn from and contribute toward the history teaching community. History gives such crucial skills and perspectives to our young people; it is so fulfilling to be involved in that journey of discovery for them.’

Mathematics

Anna-Maria Massara
Bentley Wood High School

I have taught Maths for many years, and I am now in my 6th year as Head of Maths at Bentley Wood. As a Maths teacher, I am passionate about inspiring my students and nurturing an appreciation for both the abstract and practical aspects of the subject. I believe that Maths is a powerful tool with real-life, practical applications.

My goal is to show my students how Maths is a key to understanding and navigating the world around us by showing its relevance in everyday life, and inspiring my students to embrace the beauty of both the abstract and practical elements of the subject.

MFL

Neetu Sadhwani
Avanti House

My name is Neetu Sadhwani and I am the Harrow Collegiate Subject Lead for Languages. I am also the Head of Faculty for Modern Foreign Languages at Avanti House Secondary.

I have been teaching languages since 2007 and I have worked as Languages examiner for different exam boards. During my career so far, I have led my team and supported them with the best of resources and up to date knowledge on language pedagogy. I have also organized several residential trips to Spanish and French speaking countries, European cultural days and events and I have established very strong links with the Education Leads of different Foreign Embassies. I also support the learning of Community Languages and run various MFL events and competitions in association with the University of Cambridge.

Facilitating and encouraging language learning and promoting a love for languages is at the heart of everything I do in my day to day and as a Lead for Languages in the borough, I enjoy supporting Heads of Departments and colleagues from other local schools with the latest professional development opportunities to allow their students to thrive and excel with their languages.

Alicia Johnson
Nower Hill High School

Head of Performing Arts at Nower Hill High School. Alicia studied Music with Psychology at North West University, Potchefstroom.

‘I really enjoy teaching the history and theory of Music because it puts the music we listen to in context and makes us understand it better. Theory of Music empowers you to analyse music in depth and it is essentially learning another language’

Jack Roberts

Nower Hill High School

Second In Charge of the Music department, Jack leads on Music Technology and Peripatetic lessons at Nower Hill High School. Jack studied Commercial Music at Bath Spa University, with a specialism in recording and production.

‘I really enjoy teaching the history of recording and production techniques as it can be learnt in a hands on, practical approach that is student lead.’

 

PE

Samantha Sheppard
Nower Hill High School

Head of Year 9 and Lead Teacher of GCSE at Nower Hill High School. Samantha studied Physical and Sport Education at St Mary’s University, Twickenham.

“I really enjoy teaching PE and the different dimensions that it has. The practical element allows me to instil a lifelong love of physical activity into students and encourage them to have a sustained involvement in this. The theoretical element allows me to explore the social and cultural issues that exists within PE and look at ways that they can be broken down.”

PSHE

Meghan Cathcart
Alperton Community School

Growing up in Canada and completing my university degree in History and English, I found my way across the pond to Scotland. After completing my PGCE in Glasgow, I made my way south to Brent, London. I have been the Head of PSHE for 3 years at Alperton Community School where I also teach History across all key stages. I am also currently the Associate Assistant Head of Intervention and Inclusion. After completing a few courses through the HCA over the years, I wanted to continue to involve and surround myself with those interested in improving their practice!

Physics

Carina Guerreiro

Kingsmead School

Carina has been the Physics Coordinator at Kingsmead School since September 2022. She is the local mentor for Science PGCE trainees from Middlesex University, and has actively been providing support in anything Physics-related to NQTs and fellow colleagues (both non-specialists and specialists) since she joined the school.

Carina holds a degree in Physics with teacher training in Physics and Chemistry, and also did a master’s degree in Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. She has taught Science, Physics and Engineering in a variety of settings for over 20 years, and has also industry experience as a Health Physicist.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to support all Physics teachers of the Harrow Collegiate Alliance, as Physics and teaching are two things I am really passionate about. I am always eager to help, and believe that creating a forum where Physics teachers can share ideas will be a major asset to ensure better outcomes in that subject for the alliance’s students.”

RS & Philosophy

Taira Chaudhry
Nower Hill High School

Head of Humanities and PRE, Diversity Co-ordinator at Nower Hill High School. Taira studied Humanities with a focus on Philosophy and Literature at Greenwich University.

“I really enjoy teaching PRE (Philosophy, Religion and Ethics), especially concepts relating to the philosophy of religion, it’s always good to get students thinking and raising philosophical questions!

I also enjoy delivering CPD sessions and whole school assemblies on issues relating to diversity. We want students to be in a place where they are celebrated and not just tolerated.”

Sociology

Tomislav Maric
Bentley Wood High School

Tomislav Maric is an experienced sociology teacher with over two decades of teaching social sciences. Tomislav has been AQA Assistant Examiner for Sociology A levels for over 10 years as well as principal examiner for Anthropology A levels.

He is a co-author of three textbooks Introducing Anthropology. What Makes us Human?  Published by Polity; AQA Sociology for A Level  AQA book 1  published by Hodder; AQA Sociology for A Level AQA book 2 published by Hodder.

Technology

Sarah Francis
Nower Hill High School

Head of Technology at Nower Hill High School. Sarah studied Design at West London University, she also brings industrial experience in ‘real world’ terms.
